On a gloriously sunny afternoon at the start of August the small church at the heart of Shortwood was packed with guests who had come to witness the marriage of Stacey and James

By request, it was a simple ceremony. However, the happy couple chose to be married in their village chapel as they wanted the church’s blessing on their union.

The marriage was conducted by the Rev Dr Aboseh, as Shortwood is one of the churches in his care. Aboseh guided the couple through their responses, and invited them to make the personal vows to each other which they had prepared in advance. Rings were exchanged, and the congregation affirmed their willingness to support Stacey and James in their new married life. Senior steward, Diane Bailey, presented a gift from the congregation to the couple.

After prayers and blessing, the bride and groom made their way outside where they were showered with rose petals.

It was a heart-warming and joyful occasion. A great day for Shortwood – it has been many years since the last wedding here. We hope for many more in the years to come. (Reported by Caroline Slinn)
