On Saturday 19 September, Olveston and Tockington Methodist Church organised the Tockington Village Harvest Fayre, bringing people from across the local community together for a wonderful afternoon of celebration, friendship and fun.

Held on Tockington Village Green, the event offered something for everyone. Visitors enjoyed homemade cakes and cream teas, live music from a local ukulele band, children’s activities, games, crafts, plants, toys, a tombola and a delightful pets corner.

The children’s fancy dress parade, themed around ‘Our Wonderful World’, was a particular highlight, with children arriving dressed as animals and other wonderful creations. There were also activities provided by Olveston Parish Players and Music with Hannah, giving younger children plenty of opportunities to join in and have fun.

The afternoon was a great opportunity to celebrate the local community and the harvest season, while creating a welcoming space for people of all ages to come together.

A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone from Olveston and Tockington Methodist Church who helped organise and run the event, as well as to all the volunteers, local groups and visitors who made the afternoon such a success.

It was a wonderful example of our church communities reaching out, building connections and creating opportunities for people to meet, share and enjoy being together.

Lilly from Flourish Framework was there with Gloria Van here her thoughts:

This was my first time attending Tockington’s famous Harvest Fayre. It was really inspiring to see so many people of all ages come together to help and support the day’s running – and luckily none of the gazebos blowed over! It’s a really unique and beautiful shared history that everyone in Tockington has played a part in the Fayre at some point in their lives: I got to hear from residents who remembered when they were the harvest queen 20 years ago, or when they were the rainbows in the final performance.
After a cloudy morning, the sun came out just in time for the fun to start in the afternoon: from fete games to folk singers and cream teas – a rather jolly time was had by all!
A massive, massive thank you and well done must go out to everyone who made the event possible, from those who donated items for the tombola, put up gazebos in the rain, baked cakes, manned a stall, or carried chairs at the end – it wouldn’t have happened without you. And an extra special mention must go out to Jane, Maggie, and Delia, who have each donated heaps of time and energy to organising the Fayre and who I dearly hope are enjoying some well earned rest this week!
The highlight for me was getting to have moments of connection with Tockington’s residents over a cup of tea, and getting to be the games host for the rather exciting Pandoras Box game!
Thank you Tockington for welcoming Flourish to be a part of your Harvest Fayre, we look forward to the next one!
