What a wonderful day of fellowship, fresh air, and discovery we shared on our recent local circuit walk, organised by Aboseh from Shortwood Methodist Church. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, enjoying beautiful sunshine and perfect walking conditions throughout the day.

The five-mile walk around the local area gave everyone a chance not only to enjoy the countryside but also to slow down, chat, laugh, and spend quality time together. It was a mindful and uplifting experience, reminding us how important it is to connect with one another while appreciating God’s creation around us. Everyone did amazingly well to complete the walk, and there was such a warm sense of encouragement and friendship along the way.

We were also delighted to meet John, who kindly agreed to show us around the old coal mine at Brandy Bottom. His knowledge and enthusiasm brought the history of the site to life for us all. Brandy Bottom Colliery dates back to the 19th century and was once part of the Somerset coalfield. The mine played an important role in the local community, providing work for generations of miners before finally closing in the early 20th century. Today, the remaining buildings and winding gear stand as a fascinating reminder of the area’s industrial heritage.

After the walk, we gathered together for tea and biscuits, which tasted especially good after our efforts. Sitting together afterwards and sharing conversation was a lovely end to a very special outing.

To conclude the day, Aboseh shared a thoughtful reading from Green Reflections: Biblical Inspiration for Sustainable Living by Martin Hodson and Margot Hodson, leaving us with much to reflect on about faith, creation care, and sustainable living.

A huge thank you to Aboseh for organising the walk, and to everyone who took part and helped make the day such an enjoyable and memorable occasion.
